The World Society for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery was established in 2006 in order to bring together pediatric and congenital heart surgeons and their colleagues from around the world in a spirit of cooperation, friendship and mutual respect. It held its Inaugural Meeting in Washington, D.C. in May 2007, which was attended by 385 individuals from 61 countries. The meeting generated a lot of enthusiasm and was a great success. The Vision of the World Society is that every child born anywhere in the world with a congenital heart defect should have access to appropriate medical and surgical care. Its Mission is to promote the highest quality comprehensive care to all patients with pediatric and/or congenital heart disease, from the fetus to the adult, regardless of the patient’s economic means, with emphasis on excellence in education, research and community service. The World Summit is the next logical step in the pursuit of the Vision and Mission of the World Society. We hope that all the partners in the necessary coalition will come together in Montreal and help to elaborate together a global plan to improve the quality of care across the world.. |
